Ports are an essential, though understated, factor in the success of the UK economy. Ports handle over 90 per cent of the UK's import and export tonnage, providing essential support to the world's fourth largest economy. Ports have a vital role to play in supporting local and regional employment and economies and other sectors such as fishing, leisure and the offshore industry.
Harwich Haven is probably the most important deep water harbour in the UK. It handles over 40 per cent of the UK's deep sea container traffic and a substantial volume of cruise, ferry and ro-ro freight business, with some 17,000 commercial vessel movements per annum, including some of the world's largest container ships.
HHA aims to run a safe, efficient, cost effective harbour operation based on the principles of sustainability for the benefit of all port users and the wider community.
